Electrical Breakdown The Most Frequent Cause of Loss
Fig. 01 - Loss Example
Short Circuit
A short circuit in the main control board of an air conditioner causes permanent and irreparable damage to the board. A replacement part cannot be located so the entire air conditioning system must be replaced.

The Causes
Equipment failure resulting from electrical breakdown is, by far, the most frequent cause of loss, accounting for 65% of all equipment breakdown claims. Many factors can contribute to this form of equipment breakdown.
- Excessive moisture
- Insulation deterioration
- Loose connections
- Operator error
- Poor workmanship
- Supply line surge

Where it Happens
- Cables/wiring
- Circuit breakers
- Distribution panels
- Electric motors
- Electronics
- Misc. electric equipment
How it Happens
- Arcing
- Ground faults
- Motor burnout
- Single phasing
Prevention
Simple steps can be taken to minimize the risk or impact of potential loss caused by electrical breakdown.
- Housekeeping (Cool, Clean, Dry and Tight)
- Infrared testing
- Proper installation & protection
- Routine maintenance
